COAG initiative service providers [16 May 2007]
Villa Maria successfully tendered to develop a 10 bed home for young people with complex medical needs who are presently living in nursing homes as part of the COAG my future my choice initiative in Victoria. The draft design for the new purpose-built facility sees two five bedroom houses connected to a communal kitchen and lounge area with each room having private access. The proposed model of care allows for people to have regular time outside of their home through the design and funding of individualised support packages. Social needs will be met through utilising existing networks and partnerships and each person will continue to be actively involved with their own social network and friends.
Villa Maria sees this new service as "…a home. A place where ten people can live their lives to their full potential, plus are cared for in a holistic manner by family, friends and a strong professional network of people. These people will have the skills, knowledge and experience necessary to meet each individual’s needs, wants and aspirations, thereby providing an enriching environment both within the home and community."
