Source: The Melbourne Age: [BEN DOHERTY] CARERS for people with disabilities have picketed the Prime Minister's Bennelong office, angry at alleged government inaction over funding for disability support services. More than 50 people protested outside John Howard's electorate office, calling for more accommodation places and care for profoundly disabled people. Mary Lou Carter from the Carers Alliance said elderly parents caring for disabled adult children were concerned about what would happen to their children when they died. "We need the government to meet the unmet need, provide the funding for services for families all over Australia who are struggling, stressed out of their minds, about how to care for their own children." Under the last agreement, the states and territories provided most funding, about $3.2 billion, while the Commonwealth provided $600 million. Mr Howard wasn't at his electorate office yesterday for yesterday's protest. He was across town in a cabinet meeting. BEN DOHERTY
