NSW Younger People in Residential Aged Care Program Print

The NSW Younger People in Residential Aged Care Program (YPIRAC) is a response to the number of younger people with a disability residing in aged care facilities. The program is being managed by the NSW Department of Ageing, Disability and Home Care (DADHC), under the terms of a Bilateral Agreement with the Commonwealth Government. This new initiative is a central strategy of Stronger Together: A new direction for disability services in NSW 2006 - 2016, a 10 year plan to provide greater assistance and long term practical solutions for people with a disability.

Developed in conjunction with the Commonwealth Government, the new program will provide alternative accommodation and support services for some younger people with a disability who are inappropriately living in, or at risk of entering, residential aged care.  The program will also provide support to better meet the needs of some of the younger people with a disability who remain living in residential aged care.

Initially, priority will be given to people aged under 50 years who are most inappropriately housed in residential aged care and those people under 50 years most at risk of inappropriately entering residential aged care. Applications from eligible people aged 50-64 years may be considered at a later stage, if funding is available.

A pdf NSW YPIRAC Fact Sheet is available that provides further information about the program.

You can also phone the YPIRAC Information Line on 1800 467 622.
