Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has released the final report of the Australia 2020 Summit.

Last month about 1,000 people spent a weekend at Parliament House in discussions about future policy ideas.

Their ideas have been collated and trimmed into the final report.

Today Mr Rudd said the report "provides many ideas for Australia's path to the future".

"We wanted to shake the tree in free and open forums and see what good ideas fell out, ideas that will make Australia an even better place in the future," Mr Rudd said in a statement.

He again highlighted the call for a tax review as one of the good, practical ideas to come from the summit.

"The government has already implemented the first of these ideas by setting up the Henry Commission to review Australia's taxation system."

"The 2020 Summit was an opportunity to open the doors to the community and letting them come in and have their say."

Mr Rudd said the document also included findings from the 2020 Youth Summit, 500 school summits held around Australia, Jewish symposium and other regional events.

He also likes a call for a national economy where businesses can operate between states more easily and a project where people receive HECS relief for community service.

"There's dozens and dozens of ideas put forward here and we will work our way through these methodically," Mr Rudd said.

Mr Rudd said the government would now consider the final report before reporting back on whether it would adopt any more summit recommendations by the end of the year.

"The task of government now is to consider all of the summit recommendations in the final report and to deliver on our commitment to respond to these by the end of the year.

"The government has maintained throughout this process our support for concrete ideas that set out a practical approach to nation-building and this will be reflected in our response."

While the final report has been handed to government Mr Rudd said submissions could still be made.

"The release of the final report does not signal the end of discussions and debate.

"I encourage every Australian to continue to contribute their ideas and be part of the conversation by making a submission online."
