Ian Cox Print

Kerrie It is with deep sadness that the Alliance acknowledges the loss of one of our first members, Ian Cox, after a long illness.

A passionate campaigner for the rights of young people in nursing homes, Ian and his wife were primary carers for their daughter, Helen, after she was badly injured in a horse riding accident. In the absence of any supports, Ian devised a rehabilitation program for Helen and carried out this program himself with her, while successfully running the family farm at the same time.

Ian was especially concerned about the lack of supports and accommodation for young people living in rural areas. On their behalf, Ian travelled long distances to meet with government ministers and press for improved services. Ian was never backward in demanding accountability from them.

One of life's gentlemen, Ian's patience and determination in pressing for the rights of young people with acquired disabilities will be sorely missed.

The Alliance extends its deepest sympathy to Ian's wife, Natalie, his duaghters Marjorie, Isabel, Susan and Helen and their families, and Ian's many friends.
